So it’s time for your engagement photography session, but you have some questions. You’re stuck in front of the mirror because you look good in everything and you have no idea how to narrow down your favorite outfits! Well, don’t worry. Here’s my styling tips for the gals!
Just One or Two Outfits for the Entire Engagement Photography Session?
For engagement photography sessions I always tell my clients to bring up to two outfits! One dressy and one casual. But that doesn’t mean you have to!
Most of my brides who choose two outfits will bring one dress that will absolutely “wow” the camera. And they will also bring another shorter sundress or jeans and a cute top for a more casual “us on a date” feel.
But, like I said, you don’t have to bring two looks if it’s too stressful or you’d rather just stick to one fabulous look! Just one outfit that you love will be so much better than one outfit you love paired with another you’re not very excited about. So, do you choose one or two? It’s really up to you!
Always Say Yes to the Dress!
So, when you wear a long flowy dress or skirt, it will look amazing on camera! They bring extra movement to the photos, especially photographed with nature, like the desert, forests, plains or the beach. Cute, shorter-length dresses photograph beautifully as well!
Besides bringing that beautiful appearance of movement to the camera, dresses and skirts tend to look most stunning on camera because they really flatter the female body as well.
How to Choose the Best Colors
Most ladies stress about picking the right colors and coordinating with their man. However, there’s some really basic guidelines that you should follow when choosing colors for your outfits! I recommend selecting lighter tones and more muted shades. By avoiding ultra-bright, bold colors, it will help bring all the attention to your faces. When viewing the photos, it lets the eye focus on you and not your outfits, making it way easier to see how the two of you feel about each other.
The camera loves shades of soft pink and muted blues, mixed with sophisticated light neutrals like heather gray, creams, leather brown and white. That softer color palette fits beautifully into almost all natural outdoor environments. By choosing colors like this, the focus will be on your love, and not just how you look.
And that’s it! Those are three of my go-to styling tips for women when planning their engagement photography session. Keep these in mind and you’ll have an awesome time and even better photos to remember your engagement session by!
